Art II Syllabus and Supplies
Course Objectives
1. Perception—Students will interpret visual parallels between the structures of natural and human-made environments; and compare suitability of art materials and processes to express specific ideas relating to visual themes, using precise art vocabulary.
2. Creative expression/performance—Students will formulate multiple solutions to expand personal themes that demonstrate intent; apply design skills in creating practical applications, clarifying presentations, and defining choices made by consumers; and select from a variety of art media and tools to communicate specific ideas in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fiberart, jewelry, photography/filmmaking, and electronic media-generated art.
3. Historical/cultural heritage—Students will study a selected historical period or style of art; analyze specific characteristics of artworks in various cultures; and select and research career and avocational choices in art.
4. Response/evaluation—Students will select and critique artworks in progress, making decisions about future directions in personal work; and select and critique original artworks, portfolios, and exhibitions by peers or others.
Required Materials
Asel Art Kit $45
Students are provided with a locked cabinet in order to store their supplies at school. Make sure that the student’s name is on every piece, including each pencil and paintbrush. If you have any questions or are having trouble getting any of the supplies feel free to call me so that I can make arrangements.
Student Evaluation
Grades will be assigned each six weeks in the following way:
Daily Grades (40%)
6 Journal grades (due by Friday each week)
6 Daily Participation Grades
Small projects that take less than 2 days
Major Grades (60%)
Art 2 students are required to complete 3 major projects per six weeks. Two of these projects will be assigned by
the teacher, the other is chosen by the student in their medium.
Sketchbook Journals
Each week journal prompts will be put on the white board. Students will read the prompts and then respond by drawing in their journals. Journals are to be kept all year. Class notes should also be taken in the journal.
Daily Participation Grades
Students will be awarded a 100 for a daily grade each week for participating in class. 20 points will be ducted for each day that the student fails participate and follow art room rules. Some reasons that a student could lose points: (1) Working on homework for another class (2) Not working on their art project (3) Failing to clean up properly or take care of classroom materials (4) Breaking any classroom or school rule

Art II Sketchbook Journal Prompts
1st Six Weeks
1. Copy the Mona Lisa
2. Rearrange the Mona Lisa to suit yourself
3. Travel Advertisement for a fake country
4. Using purple colors, create a picture of a demon in a gondola. Theme: the leaves are falling.
5. Using grey colors, evoke a sense of disgust and place the subject in Venice.
6. Design your own fragrance, create a 2-page spread advertisement for it.
2nd Six Weeks
7. Design your own sandwich (as far from 'normal' as possible- This should make the McRib look healthy and normal), create a 2-page spread advertisement for it.
8. Design a tool or object that makes art class easier, create a 2-page spread advertisement for it.
9. Thanksgiving Dinner, Before and After (This does not necessarily have to do with food)
10. A place I visit that I do not live in.
